This multidisciplinary training manual on how to conduct credibility assessment in asylum claims was the result of a Europe-wide project to review and collect best practice on adult asylum claims, within the framework of the “CREDO – Improved Credibility Assessment in EU Asylum Procedures” project, led by the Hungarian Helsinki Committee in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Association of Refugee Law Judges (IARLJ) and Asylum Aid. The project was co-funded by the European Commission.

The manual contains a chapter on Memory by Stuart Turner and Jane Herlihy. The chapter serves as a good introduction to some of the basic forms and models of how we remember, and applies this knowledge to credibility asessment within the asylum process. Other chapters address the legal approach to credibility assessment (Michael Kagan), psychological trauma (Lilla Hárdi), inter-cultural barriers in asylum claims (Éva Tessza Udvarhelyi) and the psychology of the decision maker (Gábor Gyulai, editor).
